Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas, John Houseman and Douglas Fairbanks Jr star in this 80s horror based on the novel by Peter Straub. When four old friends, Ricky, John, Sears and Edward (Astaire, Douglas, Houseman and Fairbanks Jr), decide to get together once a week to reminisce about times in their youth - calling themselves the Chowder Society - they end up competing with each other over who can tell the most gruesome ghost stories. Blake Edwards' screen adaptation of Truman Capote's novella stars Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, an eccentric high-class escort working in New York. When young writer Paul Varjack (George Peppard) - the kept man of a wealthy older woman - moves into Holly's apartment block, he finds inspiration when he falls in love with her. Daring in its day, it is believed by some that Peppard was chosen because he bore an uncanny resemblance to Capote himself.

A second film version (the first was made in 1930) of Erich Maria Remarque's story about a group of idealistic young Germans recruited to fight on the Western Front in 1914. Amongst their number is the patriotic Paul Baumer (Richard Thomas), whose preconceptions are rapidly shattered upon witnessing the horror of life at the front. Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence and Ian Holm also star.
